What is your current job role and what does it entail?
I am currently a Personal Assistant & Business Support Manager. The role varies daily but the main tasks include diary and mailbox management, screening and dealing with correspondence, phone calls and other requests, coordinating national and international travel and accommodation, organising and preparing for meetings and events and processing case work enquiries from members of the public.
What would you say was the best thing about your apprenticeship?
My time as an apprentice allowed me to gain the essential work experience needed to apply for a permanent job as well as giving me the opportunity to complete a number of professional qualifications. In addition to this, I was also earning money at the same time.
What do you think was your biggest area of achievement/improvement while you were an apprentice?
I began my apprenticeship straight after college with no real work experience. Being an apprentice increased my workplace confidence dramatically.
Do you think you would be doing your job role now if you hadn’t have done your apprenticeship?
No, I don’t think I would. I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to discover the job opportunities on offer at the Council.
Have you got any advice for new apprentices?
Ask lots of questions and learn as much as you possibly can. Being an apprentice is a great opportunity, make the most of it.
